I’m Georgie, a 25 year old, from Adelaide, Australia. That’s me up there, in a particularly memorable moment from Bangkok, Thailand. When not travelling, I have a regular 9 – 5 job in the legal field. I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Journalism – so while I use my law degree in everyday life, not so much so for my journalism parchment. That is one of the many reasons for starting this travel blog.
My favourite places
I have found plenty to love in every place I’ve ever visited. I always try to see the best in every country I visit and there are exceptionally few places I have downright disliked. That said, Asia in particular has stolen my heart and captured my imagination. In particular exploring Cambodia and Nepal have been two of my greatest travel memories. I also love Northern Africa & the Middle East, and hope to inspire others to visit this sometimes under appreciated part of the world! I think these places have some of the most hospitable people in the world, and I’ve tried to bring this into my life, too!
My travel style
I think I am most accurately described as a ‘flash packer’ – I love to save money, but I also like to be comfortable on my trips. I hate camping. I love adventure activities, history and culture. Even though I’m pretty small, I have a very healthy appetite for food when I’m on the road. I’m a poor photographer but what I lack in skill I make up for in enthusiasm!
The reasoning behind my blog
With this travel blog I hope to bring you inspiration for your own trips and ideas for your own adventures! On a personal level this blog combines a number of my loves; writing, travel, photography and web development. I have a shocking memory so I hope that this will also serve as an alternative to the travel journals I could never manage to keep!
I first started this blog back in 2014 and I have gone through numerous cycles with it, updating it for awhile and then letting it go. That is why I decided to rebrand it in 2017, from a travel-only blog to include broader topics. I chose ‘beyond the harbour’ because while this is clearly applicable to travel, it is also a motto I hope to apply to my life more generally!
